I decided to gush about my favorite characters!




Gord Vendome
I love Gord with all my heart. I kind of went off on a lot of my love for him over on my Snowflake #6. I've learned in recent years that I have a bit of a type, and that type tends to be a princely or princess character. I like them spoiled, vain, high maintenance, and a little bit silly for it. Gord fulfills that in spades. Thanks to Bully being a very over-the-top humorous game, the dialogue borders on ridiculous, and I love how goofily flirtatious Gord can be as well as his love of expensive clothes. I love that, out of the preps, he seems to be the most learning/education focused. He's the only prep you run into in the library, and he talks about how he wants to be a lawyer like his father. He also dates outside of his social circle and class, and obviously gets a thrill out of doing so. Every character in the game is quirky and weird, but Gord is quirky and weird in a way that I love the most. He's hilarious and interesting and he makes me want to see him as an adult so bad to see how he turned out!



Felix Alexius
You go into a game like Dragon Age: Inquisition expecting to fall in love with one of the many, beautifully well written romance candidates, and I'm over here clutching at an extreme side character who you see twice before they die. I don't know why I do this to myself. x_x He's so soft-spoken, polite, and has soulful eyes. Then you find out he's sick with the Blight and dying slowly. And despite that, he talks about his impending death with a gentle calm, and he's using his remaining time to help the Inquisition. That he does this while going against his father whom he loves says so much. He has a strong moral compass and a big heart, able to see and work with grey areas better than most. I love him so desperately, and I wish he could have been a bigger character in the story.


Iwai Munehisa
Persona 5 is the fandom I interact with the most, and my favorite character is Iwai. I imagine younger me would have been surprised! Iwai is older and very masculine and gruff. He's a single dad with a teenaged son, and he once was part of the yakuza. Oh, and he owns and runs his own small business; an airsoft store. By persona standards, he's extremely unique and fleshed out. His entire storyline is about his past coming to haunt his present, old yakuza connections threatening his son and business. I love that 'exciting old life' meets 'current mundane parent life' dynamic. And then he talks and he's fucking cute! He's a huge weapons nerd, talking about his crafting and guns and hunting. You learn very quickly that this is a man who is totally comfortable with himself and is so unpretentious. I love how settled and interesting he is. I'll love him forever. <3


Fenris
I'd say that Fenris is my first video game crush. Gideon Emery's voice coming out of this white haired, green eyed elf in goth armor was like being knocked flat on my back. x_x Then he turns out to be angry and troubled and violent with a vulnerable heart. I love a character whose feelings are complicated as hell, and Fenris delivers. His confidence and volatile emotions make him so formidable, but those quiet moments where he opens up and stares at Hawke with those longing stares...oof. DAII was great for passionate, love or die sort of relationships, and I feel like Fenris was the most intense of them all. I have played this game multiple times and I always, always end up romancing him even when I started with the intent to date someone else. He is a siren call in the dark for me.


Rolan
I have so many loved characters in BG3. I love Astarion and Halsin and Dammon, but when tasked to pick my favorite, I kept going back to Rolan. I love him for similar reasons to the other characters I love! I love that he's a little over-the-top and presents a very princely aura. He boasts about his magic and his future working under a powerful mage. His speech is adorably pompous, but he has such sweet smiles. I love his relationship with his siblings. That even though he has these airs and these dreams, he cares for them more than anything else. That they focused on that further into the story, showing him breaking down over his siblings being captured? Eugh. I ate it up. Rolan snapping, intoxicated, and angry at Tav is still my favorite scene in the game. A well put together person like him being presented so messy and upset was so nice. And then to find out how he's abused under Lorrokoan when he finally achieves his dream of his family together and in Baldur's Gate with his fancy new position was heartbreaking. I like that he's taken over the mage tower in my game, once again wonderfully smug. I love him so much.

I could honestly go on and on about these characters! Keeping it to a paragraph or so was hard. But that was a super fun activity to just gush about them. <3

Huzzah for gushing about characters! Love getting to see what make people 'fall' for their favorites - and the more faves you get, the more patterns tend to emerge 😆 (I've noticed I tend to go for characters who have some sort of issue with loyalty - being too loyal, being loyal to an ideal, learning to trust others after a past betrayal, etc etc)

And oooooooh boy, you said it, Fenris is a bloody siren! I've never managed to romance anyone else in DAII either, despite my best efforts 😅

Absolutely. Loyalty is so good! I love how it just opens up a world for let downs or epic displays of loyalty. It has so many possibilities, and all of them are enjoyable. Good taste <3

I'm also glad to hear I'm not the only one who is incapable of avoiding Fenris romance >.> I feel seen.

Loyalty can indeed lead to so many wonderfully dramatic plot points and character moments, I 100% agree! 💖

Fenris has hypnotized so many DAII players, it's amazing anyone else gets romanced at all 😆
